In the name of greater connectivity, enhanced benefits, and a more seamless travel experience across Australia, Malaysia, and beyond - Malaysia Airlines and Qantas have announced an all-new codeshare partnership.

This is huge news for Qantas frequent flyer members as it means travellers can now purchase QF tickets from Australia to Malaysia on Malaysia Airlines flights. Also, Malaysia Airlines flight numbers, which would previously only accrue at the Economy rate, will now accrue at the Business Class level.
Now, if you were to fly from East Coast Australia to Kuala Lumpur in Business Class, you will accrue 120 Status Credits. Frequent flyers can also earn 360 Status Credits on Malaysia Airlines flights to Europe - which is the same as Cathay Pacific’s Business Class.
It’s important to note that this will exclude Malaysia Airlines’ lowest price point, the Z class category.
As a result of their longstanding connection as fellow oneworld alliance member airlines, the codeshare will see Malaysia Airlines add its signature ‘MH’ code to eighteen Qantas-operated domestic routes across Australia. This leaves Australians with smoother onward connections from key international gateways to cities such as Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, and Launceston.
Meanwhile, Qantas will add its own ‘QF’ code on Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and major Australian cities such as Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. This is in addition to popular Singapore and Malaysian destinations such as Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, and Penang.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, said, “This partnership supports our broader strategy for sustainable growth, working alongside our partners to deliver a seamless travel experience that puts our passengers at the centre of everything we do.”
The collaboration between the two airlines comes as Malaysia Airlines plans for significant expansion into the Australian market in late 2025. The five-times weekly flights to Brisbane will resume on 29 November 2025. Meanwhile, services to Melbourne and Sydney will increase to three daily flights from 30 October 2025. The Perth route will also be increased from twelve weekly flights to fourteen from 1 December 2025 - with Adelaide raised from five to seven weekly flights on 1 February 2026. The above enhancements are said to reaffirm Malaysia Airlines’ long-term commitment to the region with a notable boost in capacity and frequency.
