Japan Airlines Business Class Cabin

Mon, 19 Feb 2018

We were onboard Japan Airlines Dreamliner to have a look at their business class Sky Suites. The JAL business class layout is a little different than other airlines on the market at the moment, and it's packed with benefits.

The cabin is laid out in a 2-2-2 configuration, however every passenger has direct aisle access due to a unique jagged alignment of the two side seats creating a walkway to the window seat.

The Sky Suites are very private with high walls around the seats and retractable screens between them. The unique window seat layout means that this is the most private seat in the cabin, ideal for passengers travelling alone.

Another benefit of the Sky Suites is the width of the footrest, as the seat/bed is straight in the plane, not angled towards the centre or windows of the plane as in many other business class cabins, the width of the bed is the same at the top as it is at the bottom, meaning a lot more foot space as you're not angled into a 'cubby hole'.

The entertainment screens are also some of the largest you'll find onboard, measuring a full 23 inches and covering the full end of the suite.

For passengers travelling together, the 2 side suites may also be a preffered option due to the position of the screens between the seats. In the centre pair of, the seats are alligned, meaning there is a fixed wall covering the top half of the suite. There is a retractable screen, but as that only covers th ebottom half of the suite, both passengers will need to lean forward to talk/see each other.

Each Sky Suite seat converts to a fully flat bed, with a control panel to adjust the seat to your comfort and liking throughout the flight.

There is also plenty of storage options within the suite, with room under your footrest for a carry on bag, a small table ledge that runs around the suite (in addition to a retractable dining table), a shelf to your side for books/tablets/headphones and larger overhead shelf for bulkier items.
