Finnair and Qatar Airways have today announced a partnership to provide daily services from Nordic capitals in Doha.
The strategic agreement will launch flights from Helsinki, Stockholm and Cophenhagen into Doha with the option of including another European destination in the future. The new services will begin flying daily from each city in November and December 2022 and will be operated on Finnair’s Airbus A330, offering a codeshare agreement. The A330 features the airline's new long haul cabins including the recently launched AirLounge Business Class seats, brand new Premium Economy cabin and refreshed economy seats.
The partnership provides a seamless connection for European passengers to connect to Qatar Airways extensive network of over 100 destinations, while additionally opening Finnair’s nordic network to Qatar passengers.
As part of the route overhaul, Finnair will suspend flights from Helsinki to Chicago and from Stockholm to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Bangkok and Phuket from late October. This decision is to focus on the Qatar Airways partnership and more financially beneficial routes.
Both Qatar Airways and Finnair are a part of oneworld and although the impact on fares due to the partnership remains to be seen, we would expect lower status credit accruals on services via Doha compared to the traditional routes through Singapore and Bangkok in conjunction with Qantas flights to Asia.
